PREPARING FOR UNIVERSITY

So if you guys didn't already know I am off to University next month! I'm super nervous and I'm still not entirely sure what to expect but I am also very excited to start a new chapter in my life. I've slowly been preparing for University for a couple of months now buying the odd few bits here and there and on Friday I went on a mad shopping spree with a friend of mine who is off to University too.

But before I could go buy all that stuff I had to do the dreaded thing of sorting out my accommodation. Now Friday morning was super stressful!! I was on my morning shift at work so I was up at 5:00 am. I told work I had to finish work early that day to ensure I was at home on time to sign into the portal at 9:00 am. I got home and made myself a coffee, set up my laptop, got changed into something comfy and sat in front of my laptop waiting. When it got to about 5 to, my heart starting pounding (don't judge me). It was very nerve racking just waiting to find out where I'd end up living for the next year and of course getting a rough idea of who I'd be living with. When it finally hit 9:00 am I had a huge disaster as every time I tried logging in with my log in details it kept telling me I wasn't recognized. Now as you can imagine I was getting very frustrated and I had to quickly call up the University to find out why I couldn't log on. Now bare in mind everyone with a unconditional offer had already confirmed their accommodation in June and those who got their results on Thursday had theirs too (I was a late applicant) so I had very little time to waste.

Apparently I had a different password than the one I was using and it was a weird number/letter code. After wasting 5 minutes on the phone I finally managed to sign in. I had to go through a few stages before I could begin applying and when I finally got to the accommodation page nearly everything was gone including my first choice. It was super intense flicking through each one to see if there were any rooms left and I found one which had about 10. I thought 'Result!!!' which was premature because every time I clicked on a room it told me I wasn't eligible. So that was it, all my chances of University halls was gone and just when all luck seemed lost I remembered something. A few months ago I applied for a halls directly and I had an email to say I had a room but at the time I didn't want to commit to anything just yet. So I rang them up and told them I was still interested and I got my deposit and tenancy agreement sorted out and they confirmed the room was mine, happy me!

So after that barrier was the next step of buying some of the essentials. The main two shops I visited was Wilkinsons and Primark. Now Wilkinsons are really good for kitchen items for people on a budget. Now as it's my first year and I was pretty poor after paying my deposit I didn't really want to go buying anything too fancy so the Wilkinsons 'Wilko Functional' range was perfect! They have pretty much everything you need saucepans, cutlery, plates and bowls. I purchased a set of 4 bowls, 4 big plates and 4 small plates for just £5.00! I also got some really cute glasses that weren't part of that range but were also good value for money at 50p each.

Primark's home section is amazing! They had everything I needed for my room and bathroom (I have an en suite) and everything is gorgeous!! I got my pillows, duvet, towels, hand towels, face cloths, a bath matt, a pop up laundry bin, sheets and pillow covers, fairy lights, cute coat hangers and some small room decorations in just one visit. I am definitely going back to Primark for some more bits because I didn't manage to look at everything as there was just too much there and it was pretty overwhelming.

Now I think I'm going to leave it there before I put you guys to sleep. I still have a few more things to do before I will be completely prepared for University but I am definitely on the right track. I hope you'll take my advice and check out Primark and Wilkinsons if you are off to University or just want some new household items as you won't regret it. Thanks for reading and don't forget to follow me on twitterinstagram and bloglovin'!

  1. I just started Uni yesterday and the way you expressed your emotions in words is so on-point! I've never shopped at Primark but I will have to check out the store sometime (especially the home section)! :)
